Marcella hand picks the gourds out of a gourd field in Morven, Georgia.  She searches the field for the gourds that have the most potential to becoming a great creation.  Marcella then takes them home, cleans them up and starts envisioning what she can create with each one.  Marcella embellishes the gourds by carving, engraving, painting and sculpting on the gourds.

Marcella sculpts her own faces, bodies, hands and feet.  All the jewelry worn by the dolls are designed and crafted by Marcella. The majority of the fabrics used to create the wardrobes have been creatively altered by Marcella's own color dyeing and rubber stamping.
